How to Write a
Landing Page that
Converts

By Jay Stever
For some people writing a landing page that
converts can be impossible. If you have no idea how to do
it, you aren’t going to find a lot of people who will
like the information you have, and they won’t buy through
your links.
Even if you copy someone else’s landing page you
could go miserably wrong. You might move different
elements around that make the landing page completely
useless compared to the successful one you are
copying.
One of the biggest problems for many is copy.
How you write your site is going to make a big difference
in how much you make off the site. Many of us are not
very good copywriters, to overcome this you need to admit
how well you copy can do for you and hire someone else,
or learn more about copy and do better. Which of these is
better for your business?
However you decide to go about getting copy you
should make sure it is a mix of selling points and
psychological triggers. If you create sales pages on your
own you could easily miss one of these
elements.
Another element is to make sure you are offering
a solution for someone. People will be coming to your
site because they have a problem and you can solve it.
Make sure you discuss their problem and tell them how you
can solve it. Otherwise, why would they
purchase?
You also need to write in an interesting tone
that encourages the reader to continue reading. You have
to make them feel like they are missing great information
if they leave your site. If you can’t get them this far
and you lose them before your solution comes up you won’t
get the sale. Words like “scientifically proven”
“guaranteed” and “shocking” are considered psychological
triggers that will help you inspire them to read
more.
The direction of your site, as well as how much
it makes sense, will make a difference in your conversion
rate as well. Take the time to have a copywriter look
over your site and give you their opinion, maybe they can
point out some things for you to change. One suggestion
should be multiple calls to action. You have to ask for a
sale before you get it. Tell them to click here to order
as well as to download.
To further increase the calls to action you
could use pop ups and optin boxes to tell them they have
only so long to make their order before the price goes
up. This could be automated by a script on your
site.
Another way to get more sales is to do timed
benefits or some kind of deadline. You don’t have to go
as far as changing your code each day but you can offer
specials for people who act fast and let them know that
the offer can expire at any time, and they could lose out
on the offer.
If you want to create a squeeze page only, then
you can skip a lot of the copywriting tricks because you
aren’t trying to get a sale, you are just going for the
optin. This is usually a lot easier because they don’t
have to pay for it. Just be sure on your squeeze page to
list many of the benefits of the optin. You should also
leave a note that the visitors information is safe from
spammers by opting in.
After you carefully put together your landing
page there are a lot of things you should continuously
test so that you are often increasing your conversion
rate and if possible your income from the
site.
